Weddings in Greece are no longer limited to a single day. Increasingly, they are planned as multi-day stays, with couples and their guests spending several days in one location. Most of these weddings involve couples coming from abroad. Instead of traveling only for the ceremony, they organize a broader stay that includes time for gathering, exploring, and hosting additional events. The wedding becomes part of a longer visit rather than a standalone occasion.

Crete, the Peloponnese, and the Ionian Islands stand out this year in terms of demand for holiday homes from international buyers. At the same time, an increasing number of foreign buyers are seeking newly built properties “off-plan” to benefit from lower prices. These findings come from one of the recent analyses.

Greece has long been associated with sun, sea, and unforgettable island landscapes, but Tripadvisor’s 2026 beach rankings offer a fresh reminder of just how powerful the country’s appeal remains. This year, Greece has made an especially strong impression, with four beaches appearing among the world’s top 15. Even more striking is the role of Crete. Two of the top three beaches in the world are located on the island: Elafonisi in second place and Balos in third.
A third Cretan beach, Falassarna, also appears in the global top 20, ranking 11th. Alongside them, Paleokastritsa in Corfu takes 14th place, giving Greece one of the strongest national showings in the ranking. At the very top of the list is Isla Pasión in Mexico, praised for its tropical scenery and distinctive natural shape. But while Mexico may hold first place, Greece clearly dominates the podium, with Crete claiming two of the three highest positions.

The Greek holiday home market in 2026 is no longer defined by a single trend. What is emerging instead is a rising demand for smaller, more affordable holiday homes. This shift reflects broader changes in international buyer behavior. Foreign purchasers are no longer simply searching for a beautiful house near the sea. They are looking more strategically at value, rental potential, construction quality, lifestyle convenience, and future resale opportunities. Greece continues to attract strong overseas interest, but the profile of demand is becoming sharper and more selective.

Syros, in the central Aegean, is being highlighted by international media as a compelling alternative to the more crowded Greek islands. British outlets, in particular, are presenting it as a destination that combines culture, architecture, and nature without the intensity of mass tourism.

Trying to figure out what a property in Greece is really worth has become surprisingly difficult. Not because there’s no demand, on the contrary, the market has been rising steadily, but because “value” in Greece is no longer a single, stable concept. Overall, the market looks healthy. According to the Bank of Greece, apartment prices increased by 7.8% on average in 2025, based on provisional data published in its Q4 2025 residential property price index. However, this overall figure masks important regional differences. In the fourth quarter of 2025 alone, prices rose by 5.9% in Athens, 8.0% in Thessaloniki, 10.5% in other cities, and 8.6% in other areas of Greece, highlighting how uneven price dynamics can be across the country.
