Maybe this is because of the ever-present background of the Mediterranean Sea. Or maybe it is the Greek sun, or the thought of the hospitable Greek family behind the door, waiting for you with a warm dish of pastitsio or moussaka, that makes the door so beautiful. In this article, we explore Greece’s most beautiful doors and what they tell us about the people and history of the place.

Kythira (Kythera) Island is known for its connection with the goddess of love, Aphrodite. The island of Kythira is located north of Crete and south of the Peloponnese. It is technically an Ionian island, but in reality it looks more like a Cycladic Island based on its architecture and landscape. Kythira is best known for its medieval architecture, pristine beaches, and quaint fishing villages.

Aristotle Onassis was one of the most well-known public figures in Greece, the owner of a shipping and cigarette empire and one of the richest men in Greece. Among his possessions were an entire apartment building in New York, a Greek national airline, and the Greek island of Skorpios. Perhaps his best-known possession was his yacht Christina O, one of the most glamorous private yachts ever built. This was his private palace where he threw parties for the rich and famous.

K-studio is an architecture studio based in central Athens which focuses on Architecture, Interior, and Hardscape Design. The co-founder, Dimitris Karampatakis, joined up to create the studio with his brother, Konstantinos. The team has grown since then to over 80 members and is known for its context-based design which encourages the user to slow down and enjoy the space. The team works with clients including Four Seasons and O & O in Athens, and TEMES in the Peloponnese. Some of the studio’s international projects are located in Israel, Qatar, Panama and Kuala Lumpur. We sat down with co-founder Dimitris Karampatakis to hear his perspective about K-Studio's philosophy and future plans.

Few things are more Greek than olive oil. Homer called it “the golden liquid,” and Hippocrates, the famous doctor of ancient Greece, gave olive oil to his patients. Today, olive oil is still a large part of Greek daily life, is one of Greece’s largest exports, and is always a part of a traditional taverna meal in Greece’s island villages.
