Venetian Portego Manor

A beautifully restored manor with traditional Venetian elements and a totally private patio, situated in North Crete, just 8 km from the town of Rethymnon.

The Patio

Three archways (a frontal one and two on the side) provide entrance to the property. Τhe left side archway leads to a “Portego” (an entrance hall being known from the ancient times in Venetian buildings). It functions as a reception area for visitors, having also its private bathroom.

Entering the courtyard from the front, you immediately notice the stone paving. On one side you can find the guesthouse (20 sqm), consisting of an open plan space including the living room, the kitchen and the fireplace which is located in the corner. An en-suite bathroom is also provided. On the other side there is a covered patio barbecue area with a traditional oven and a dining table to enjoy moments of relaxation alone or with good company, shaded and sheltered. A traditional well decorates this area. Furthermore, stone boarding walls cover the entire perimeter of the courtyard, being high enough to ensure your privacy.

The Manor

Entrance to the ground floor is provided through two adjacent doors, highly detailed with a natural stone blend, at the center of the plot. There you will find the kitchen and a sitting area in an open space layout which is partially wall separated from the main living room. High wooden ceilings decorate the interior while the large built-in fireplace along the magnificent master-crafted archways become the focal points. They guide the way through the remaining rooms, a spacious master-bedroom of 21 sqm and a double bedroom of 12,50 sqm, both with en-suite bathrooms.

Τhe connection to the upper floor is through an external spacious staircase where the remaining bedrooms and bathrooms are located. There is a clear separation of social and private zones and seamless circulation between internal and external space providing residents with a peaceful, comfortable lifestyle.

Last but not least, special design specifications were taken into consideration so that all spaces are accessible and liveable for people with special needs. A specifically designed ramp provides entrance to the ground floor, as the double room and its en-suite bathroom are equipped with all the amenities for their proper living.

The Restoration

The restoration is being carried out by the current owner with an eye for detail. The works have been completed for about 75%.

The manor will be delivered fully restored within a period of approx. 6 months. The referred price includes the completion of all the remaining interventions (instalment of doors, frames, tiles, sanity ware, kitchen etc.) as well as the construction of a pool at the adjacent plot.

The Location

• Verderi is a small settlement in western Rethymnon, about 1.3 km from the village of Prines and 2.5 km from Atsipopoulo village. In the village of Atsipopoulo there are two big super markets, cafes, tavernas, an ATM, bakery and pharmacy.
• The town of Rethymno is one of the most beautiful towns in Greece with its winding narrow alleys and classy gourmet restaurants, exactly between the two airports of Heraklion and Chania. Its long sandy beach with water sports, Kournas lake, Argyroupoli springs and Preveli beach with its crystal clear water and palm trees are just some of its sightseeings.
