Via a diversion (Ghent-Belgium), our adventure began in March 2008 in Utrecht, at the Elxis stand at the Second Home exhibition. One month later, we participated in the Creta info afternoon in Nieuwegein, with an interesting presentation, but also with the message that a visit on site is a ‘must’ to really get convinced.
So… at the end of May 2008 we set foot on Crete (for the very first time). We have an appointment with the construction company and with Giorgos of Elxis, and make a tour of projects in the neighbourhood of Rethymno, but we also go to the south, near Plakias, in Mariou. When we arrived there, we were impressed by the location of the plot, the view, the surroundings, the peace… so much so that we knew for sure that if we decided to continue with this project, it would be at this location. A few days after our return to Belgium, we finally confirmed to Elxis and the builder that we were ready.
Elxis, whom we hired for the legal and administrative support, put their money where their mouth is and immediately took the necessary actions to prepare the contract and all the necessary paperwork.
In August 2008, we returned to Crete for the first time to finalise the choice of materials and, of course, to enjoy this beautiful island (which, in an earlier stage, would never have become a holiday destination).
Then begins and follows a long trajectory of building itself. And also the introduction to the ‘Greek way’, which can be very different from ours. At every moment of the building process, Vangelis and Giorgos were there to guide and support us through all the (sometimes less easy) moments. But also the construction company was (and is) always of good will, with only one objective: the satisfaction of the customer and the right solution to every problem. After a few more interim visits, we went down in early February 2010 for the final delivery and handover of the keys (right on time, contractually speaking).
Elxis stands for professional service and guidance, a listening ear, and appropriate advice. We can certainly recommend Elxis to those who also want to take the step to their own place in Greece.
