Our dream came true. A few years ago, at the beginning of this century to be precise, the feeling came over us that we wanted to spend our holidays in a nice, warm country and later, when we retired, enjoy the peace and quiet. Of course, it had to be not only warm, but also a pleasant environment and nice, friendly people.
Over the years, we had already visited several European countries. We had not yet been to Greece. After two holidays in Greece, we knew for sure that it had to be Greece. We went to visit second home fairs. That’s how we came into contact with Elxis, Greek specialist in Utrecht. Vangelis and Giorgos gave us a very good insight into the possibilities in Greece. A choice had to be made. Important for us were also the weather conditions in winter. At least in early spring and late autumn. We also had to take into account our financial possibilities, herewith Elxis advised us very well.
When we had a good look at the whole picture we decided during a visit to the Elxis office in Utrecht to realise our dream on Crete. During a meeting of Elxis in a Greek restaurant in Nieuwegein we met the builder from Crete, especially near Rethymnon. His story sounded very good to us. Architecturally, his projects looked more than good. The explanations by Vangelis and Giorgos about the construction were also very understandable. With this baggage we travelled in 2005 full of enthusiasm to Rethymnon, Crete. With the director of the construction company we visited building plots and existing houses. Once back in the Netherlands, we contacted Elxis again and decided to wait for a project in Loutra. We now knew where this project was going to be realised. It was worth waiting for.
In 2006 back to Crete, all appointments were well arranged by Vangelis of Elxis. Because of the good preparation we could choose a nice plot and the type of house. We decided to buy. Once back in the Netherlands the contract of sale was translated into Dutch by Elxis, which gives a trusted feeling and clarity. During the construction of the house we could always rely on the knowledge of Vangelis and Giorgos and the contacts they have with the builders. They know Greek better than we do (but we are going on a course!).
Meanwhile, our dream has become reality and our house in Loutra was completed in June 2008. We have also received the title deed translated by Elxis. Elxis has contributed substantially to the realisation of our dream through their pleasant contacts with us, their knowledge, experience and contacts with the builder.
Loy and Janny now live on Crete for most of the year.
