Upcoming Airport Closures in Heraklion, Crete
Heraklion Airport, Crete’s largest airport and one of the busiest in Greece is upgrading. Greek airlines’ AEGEAN and SKY Express announced cancellations and changes to flight schedules to and from the “Nikos Kazantzakis” airport in Heraklion from February 19th to 24th, 2024.

Attempts to bring seaplanes to Greece have been going on for years. Finally, it sounds like the excitement is about to be made a reality. Recently in the port of Lavrio, which is south of Athens, Hellenic Seaplanes operated one of its first test flights, with the goal of launching regular services this summer.

Greek Airports Post Record Number of Travelers
Read moreAccording to Fraport, a major transport provider and owner of 14 of Greece’s airports, Greece had record passenger traffic in 2023. More specifically, international passenger traffic boosted by 6.5 percent compared to 2022 and 14 percent over pre-pandemic 2019. The total number of passengers (national and international) handled was 33,800,000, which was an 8.6 percent boost compared to 2022. One of the strongest months was December, when Fraport airports welcomed 754,000 passengers, which was 12.7 percent higher than December in 2022. Statistically, international arrivals grew more than domestic arrivals in this period.

Greece Among Top Travel Destinations for Brits in 2024
Greece is among the top destinations for British travelers in 2024, according to a survey released by Barclays. Of those polled, 12 percent chose Greece as their top choice for travel in 2024. Most travelers surveyed elected for domestic travel within the UK. Compared to last year, beach holidays are still the top type of trip being booked, at 44 percent. Next in line are city breaks (37 percent) and adventure holidays (12 percent).
