About seven years ago, we started our search for a house on the Greek coast. Initially, we were looking for our favourite islands, Kythira and Kefalonia, places that had already captured our hearts thirty years ago. However, the economic crisis threw a spanner in the works and we were forced to put our plans on hold.
A few years ago, we resumed our search and visited the Second Home Fair in Utrecht. There we met old acquaintances, the men from estate agency Elxis.
Our eye fell on a house in the Peloponnese, in a place we did not know. We flew there and had 48 hours to decide. It turned out to be a house with potential, in a beautiful spot on the coast, surrounded by olive trees. After just 24 hours, we knew that this was going to be our dream destination, and so it happened.
We received a warm welcome in our village and made some dear friends over the course of the last two years. Our secret: open up to the locals.
We celebrated New Year’s Eve, village festivals, our wedding, discussed the difficult period of crisis, offered a listening ear and helped where necessary. And even though there is sometimes a headwind, the Greeks remain warm-hearted and hospitable. We experience it as a privilege to spend a lot of time with them and to enjoy our fantastic (completely renovated!) dream house!
Thank you Elxis!
