Have you ever dreamed about living in Greece, but busy, touristy destinations repel you? Worry not! In this series, we will be introducing some of our handpicked favorites in Greece. Starting with…

The seaside village of Kalo Nero

Kalo Nero is a small village located in the region Messinia, in western Peloponnesos. It is nestled on an extensive coast and its golden sand covers over 14km in length. It is an ideal destination for families and nature lovers.

Things to do in Kalo Nero

The sandy beach of Kalo Nero appeals greatly to those of us dreaming of relaxing holidays by the sea. Kalo Nero is unique for its coastline which is the home of sea turtles. A species of the Caretta-Caretta turtle nest and reproduce there, so the beach is protected. The quiet waters are also exceptional for snorkelling! Additionally, the stretching of the beach creates the perfect conditions for enjoying various water sports.

A Dutch couple in Kalo Nero

Kalo Nero has already been tested by our clients. Following, we reference the experiences of Peter and Marijke Bakker, who bought a house in Kalo Nero with the assistance of Elxis.

“The peace and quiet and the overwhelming vastness of the area (Natura 2000) appealed to us, as well as the numerous streams, sometimes with beautiful dragonflies and butterflies.”

Besides beautiful beaches and guaranteed majestic sunsets, the area of Messinia is rich in history and archaeological sites. At a distance of only 5km from Kalo Nero, one can find the Site of Peristeria, a Mycenean settlement. Within an hour, on the other hand, one can reach the Temple of Apollo and the ancient city of Messini, which are marvels of ancient Greek civilizations and culture.

“We are happy with our purchase and hope to spend many happy days in Kalo Nero and its surroundings.”
