From 2014 – 2015 we looked for a nice place in Crete without any obligation. We looked at the offers through local estate agents and the Elxis website. Three years ago things got serious and we oriented ourselves on South Crete and found a plot. We made it clear to the seller that we would use Elxis and we never regretted it. A prior check of e.g. the ownership of a building plot by a lawyer is important. But also the investigation whether building is permitted. Just like in the Netherlands, there is a lot involved in the purchase of land and it is important to have an advisor who knows the language and the procedures, and who will protect you from making mistakes. That is where Elxis comes in.
To cut a long story short; In January 2018 the construction started and in March 2019 we could move into our house. We live to our liking and enjoy the people, the geniality, the surroundings and the climate of South Crete every day. Discussions with neighbours show how important support and good advice is. Many plots of land and houses are still under construction or for sale after years. Dramas. And then it turns out that involving Elxis and its network may have saved us from worse.
