If you own property in specific areas of the Regional Unit of Rethymno in Crete, there is an important deadline to keep in mind. As of 30 April 2026, the posting of cadastral data begins for several areas in Rethymno, giving property owners the opportunity for the first time to review how their property has been recorded in the Hellenic Cadastre. This is an important stage in the cadastral process. It allows each owner to check the legal and technical details of their property before the records become final. In simple terms, this is the moment to confirm that your property has been correctly registered and, if something is wrong, to request a correction within the official deadline.

What is the deadline?

Property owners in the affected areas have until 30 June 2026 to review their cadastral data and submit a correction request, if needed. Before checking the details of your property, you should first update your contact information through the online services of the Hellenic Cadastre. After that, you can review your property records electronically through the relevant cadastral platform by using your Taxisnet credentials.

What should owners check?

During the posting phase, owners are asked to review two main parts of their property record. The first is the description and legal information of the property, shown in the Cadastral Table. This includes information such as the type of right registered, the owner’s details, and other legal information connected to the property. The second is the boundaries of the land plot, shown in the Cadastral Diagram. It is important to check whether the location, shape, and boundaries of the property are correctly displayed.  If all the information is correct, no further action is required. If you notice an error, you can submit a correction request by 30 June 2026. This can be done either online through the Hellenic Cadastre platform or in person at the cadastral office, by appointment.

Why is this check important?

Reviewing your cadastral data is not just a formality. It is a practical step in protecting your property rights. Errors in the property description, ownership details, legal rights, or plot boundaries can create issues later, especially in cases of sale, transfer, inheritance, parental gift, or future development. Correcting any mistakes within the official deadline can help avoid more complex, time-consuming, and costly procedures at a later stage. This is particularly relevant for owners who live outside Crete or abroad. Since the review can be completed online, property owners do not necessarily need to be physically present in Rethymno to check their records.

Which areas are affected?

The cadastral publication concerns areas within the following municipalities:

  • Agios Vasileios

  • Amari

  • Anogeia

  • Mylopotamos

  • Rethymno

The affected communities include, among others, Agia Galini, Spili, Melampes, Myxorrouma, Sellia, Amari, Gerakari, Fourfouras, Anogeia, Perama, Panormo, Margarites, Melidoni, Pigi, Prinos, Kyrianna, Roustika, and many other communities across the Regional Unit of Rethymno. If you own property in one of these areas, it is worth checking whether and how your property has been recorded in the posting data.

Where is the cadastral office?

The competent cadastral office is located at:

Old National Road Rethymno–Chania, Violi Charaki area, Atsipopoulo, 74100

The office is open on weekdays from 08:30 to 16:30, and on Wednesdays from 08:30 to 20:30.

A useful step for property owners in Rethymno

The publication of cadastral data is an opportunity for property owners to make sure their real estate has been recorded correctly. The deadline of 30 June 2026 is specific, so it is better not to leave this check until the last moment. For anyone who owns property in Rethymno, especially in one of the affected communities, this is the right time to review the cadastral information, confirm that the details are accurate, and request corrections where needed. Taking action now can help ensure that your property remains properly registered and protected for future use, sale, transfer, or inheritance.

Who Can Help You?

A lawyer should handle this, ideally the one who completed the initial registration, as they will already have a clear understanding of the case and easy access to the legal documents and property details. Otherwise, another lawyer should review all relevant documents and carry out the necessary checks.
