The Pozar Baths (also called Loutra Pozar) are found just outside of Edessa in Pieria of northern Greece. This town is at the base of Voras Mountains and is about an hour and a half from Thessaloniki. Not many tourists know about it, but many locals visit because they know the healing abilities of the natural spring.

About the Pozar Baths
Compared to other hot springs in Greece, the Pozar Baths have hot and cold water flowing next to each other, creating a unique and relaxing experience. The baths are found 390 meters above sea level. Rainwater goes into the ground and is naturally heated by the earth, rising up through the ground and then getting enriched with minerals before joining the Thermopotamos River.
The water is a constant temperature of 37 degrees Celsius and helps to heal arthritis, kidney diseases, dermatological disorders, and respiratory problems. Even for those without serious problems, staying in the waters reduces stress and releases tension.

Pozar Baths Opening Hours
Uniquely, the indoor private baths are open late, until 4:00 am on some days. This makes the Pozar Baths a popular spot for evening activities with friends and couples. However, Loutra Pozar is also popular for kids and for seniors.
The Pozar Thermal Baths have a large outdoor hot bath and 2 indoor pools, 2 steam rooms, and 48 individual baths. The newest addition to the baths was in 2005 with 6 more pools and artificial waterfalls. All together, the temperature of the baths varies from 30 to 38 degrees Celsius.
You have to pay a daily fee to swim at the Pozar Thermal Baths. The facilities offer towels and robes for rent if you don’t remember to bring your own. Additionally, each hot spring has a changing room and shower.

Other Things to Do at Pozar Baths
In the area, you can walk along hiking paths that go through the hills in the area around the baths. Massage centers are right next to the bath and help to increase the effectiveness of the water.
City of Loutraki
The city where you can find the Loutra Pozar is forested and sits at the base of the Kaimáktsalan mountain, which divides Greece with Northern Macedonia. A natural canyon is formed that creates many natural waterwalls and beautiful surroundings. In the town, besides the resort there are hotels, cafes, folk museums, and prehistoric caves. For the adventurous, it is recommended to go on the climbing routes or visit the ski resort in the mountains nearby.

Restaurants Near the Pozar Baths
One of the best restaurants in northern Greece is called The Kokkino Piperi (Red Pepper) and it is not far from the Pozar Baths. The restaurant serves local specialties and has live rembetiko and Macedonian music. A shop inside the restaurant sells local products. The Kokkino Piperi is known for its large portions, reasonable prices, and local cheese served saganaki style (fried in a pan). Wild lamb, local greens, and xinomavro wines are some popular items.
