Despite, and perhaps precisely because of, the current Greek crisis, we saw an old charming house in Greece on the internet with its ‘feet’ in the water. A flight to Samos was booked in no time and once there, the house turned out to meet our expectations even more.
When I arrived back in the cold of the Netherlands, I was able to negotiate the price successfully on my own. For me, the most important thing was done and as a formality I approached Elxis to complete the purchase. Nothing was further from the truth after the first meeting with both gentlemen Giorgos and Vangelis; in my case the house was on the coastline and if it did not have the right papers it was considered to be built illegally and could simply be demolished with a bulldozer. See, and this is where Elxis makes a difference: chase your dream, even in Greece in this day and age, but make sure that they then provide you with all the security of your property.
Unfortunately, I was unable to be present at the actual transfer, so Giorgos completed the transaction for me there, something they do as a matter of course. It says it all when he subsequently receives an extensive thank you from the other party (!) because their own lawyer got off too lightly and Giorgos reassured and guided the English seller during the transfer. What more is there to say than that you are in good hands with both gentlemen!
