Naxos
Since 2006 we have been travelling to Greece twice a year. In May and in September. We especially like to stay in the Cyclades. Before that time we made several distant travels and we surprised ourselves that since 2006 we always went to Greece as a matter of course.
Slowly but surely, the plan to have a house on a Cyclades island arose. At first we focused our attention on the beautiful Folegandros. In the end Naxos offered the most facilities.
So… the place was decided and then a house. Build it ourselves or use existing ones? We chose the latter. On the internet we saw a great house, although newly built, but already for sale for several years. We decided to go and have a look in April 2011.
Elxis
Prior to the trip in April, we had an extremely pleasant conversation with Giorgos Gavriilidis of Elxis at the Second Home Fair in Utrecht in March 2011. He pointed out a number of important issues and advised us not to enter into negotiations with the seller. It was immediately clear to us that if we were going to negotiate, Elxis would be the right party.
We fell in love with the house and the view, but Giorgos’ wise advice prevented us from talking to the seller ourselves.
In May, we visited Elxis at its office in Utrecht. We had a preliminary discussion and were then surprised by the photos on the wall showing the beautiful houses offered by Elxis. We decided to at least go to Crete in the May holidays to see a few of the projects offered by Elxis. Beautiful nature, breathtaking views but…. we were already in love with a house on Naxos.
Negotiations
We decided and the negotiations could begin.
Without Giorgos, Vangelis and their colleague Vassilis in Athens, the purchase would have been a lot more complicated. Now we are sure that the land, the house and the purchase are legal. During the official process in Athens we experienced some hilarious moments. From the beginning we have been confident and happy with the gentlemen of Elxis.
Enjoy
In September we could start enjoying our Greek home and well… next year still seemed so far away that we planned another week at the end of November.
