Lefkada is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea on the west coast of Greece, which is connected to the mainland by a long pontoon bridge. It is also known as the “Caribbean of Greece” and for a good reason! It has a tropical vibe and breathtaking landscape consisting of a wonderful set of cliffs, white sandy beaches, incredible turquoise waters and amazing views.
Definitely the most well know beaches (and it’s obvious why!) are Porto Katsiki beach, Milos beach and Kathisma beach. Egremni beach is also still amongst the most beautiful, however only accessible by boat since 2015. Also, the Dimossari Waterfalls of Nydri must be on your to-do list if you enjoy nature.
One of the main activities on Lefkada are all kinds of watersports and wind-activities. You will see a lot of windsurfing, paragliding, kitesurfing, scuba diving, and boats, many (small and big) boats all around. If you prefer culture, the 14thy century Agia Mavra castle is a must-see, or you can visit the oldest church on the island; 16th century (literally built into a rock) Agios Ioannis Antzoussis.
The east side of the island is set in a sheltered location with views across to Skorpios (formerly owned by Aristotle Onassis), Meganisi and other small islands, as well as the Greek mainland. Lefkada Town is the heart of the island, but every corner on Lefkada will provide you a nice tavern to eat or drink and there are a number of villages to look around and enjoy.
